Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is a multipurpose technology option

AD can play a key role in fulfilling commonly agreed global and european environmental and energy objectives. There is a growing worldwide consensus that developing a viable biogas industry can boost the economy and provide a reliable, distributed source of renewable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Anaerobic digestion is a complex biochemical process

The fermentation or anaerobic decompostion of the organic matter is a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. As a result of one of this processes – the methanogenesis -, the metabolic activity of specialized microorganisms – archaea -, known as methanogens, produces biogas at about 20 days since the inception of the process. The anaerobic digestion process can be inhibited by several compounds, affecting one of more of the bacterial groups responsible for the different organic matter degradation steps.

The ambition of BioGAS+ is to help solving the underperformance of Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plants by introducing the first additive based on iron nanoparticles for outstanding energy production enhancement and/or preventing bacterial disaster in biogas digesters. BioGAS+ goes far beyond the state-of-the-art and contribute to a circular and distributed economy within the EU and worldwide. The aspiration is to transform waste into appealing raw materials in an efficient and sustainable way so that biogas production is converted in a profitable market capable of competing and surpassing fossil fuels based economy effectively.

Nowadays the critical advantages of anaerobic digestion are countered by unsustainable approaches to the biogas production and the dependence on fluctuating subsidies. Applied Nanoparticles product, the trace element supplementation BioGAS+, can triple the biogas yield. This unprecedented performance is an economical boost that changes the current uncertain biogas market situation, fostering a sustainable and profitable biogas production.
